Engineering Unit Converter
Convert the units that come up in controls and automation work. Enter a value and see it in every unit of that type.
Convert
Same value in every unit
How it works
Each unit is stored as a fixed multiple of a base unit (pascal for pressure, meter for length, and so on). A conversion multiplies by the source unit's size and divides by the target unit's size. Temperature units have offsets as well as scales, so they convert through Celsius.
°F = °C × 9/5 + 32 K = °C + 273.15
Worked example
100 psi is 689.48 kPa, 6.895 bar or about 7.03 kgf/cm². A flow of 1 gpm is 3.785 L/min, and 1 hp is 0.7457 kW.
Common questions
Gauge or absolute pressure?
The converter changes units only. It does not add or remove atmospheric pressure, so psig and psia both convert as the same size of unit. Apply the 14.696 psi atmospheric offset yourself if you need to switch between gauge and absolute.
Which inch of water is used?
The inH₂O value is for water at 4 °C (249.089 Pa). Some industries use 60 °F or 68 °F, which differ by a fraction of a percent.
Conversion factors are standard values. Verify results before relying on them for critical calculations.
